Ryōan-ji Temple Ryōan-ji (龍安寺)

Kyoto’s famous, enigmatic garden of fifteen stones set in precisely raked gravel.

Ryōan-ji is perhaps Kyoto’s most famous garden, an enigma of design in a beautiful setting in northern Kyoto. It is a dry landscape, or karesansui garden.

The famous wall is coated in an oil-based resin. The tsukubai in the back reads "I learn only to be contented."
